Hardware Engineer (Electrical)New MaldenDefence IndustryRoleAs a key member of the Hardware Engineering team, this role will work to lead and manage successful hardware integration, hardware modifications, electrical engineering, hardware baselines across multiple submarine platforms and update technical drawings and documentation to reflect customer and internal driven change. This role will also involve managing obsolescent hardware and selecting form, fit and function replacements.The role is ideal for an experienced Hardware Engineer with a background in, or working knowledge of, Electrical Engineering.Key responsibilitiesOwn, manage and maintain programme specific processes and proceduresControl change management in the event of customer, supplier or internal design changesProvide schedule estimates through impact assessments driven by changeIdentifying and managing obsolescence issuesProvide technical liaison between Northrop Grumman design teams, our customers, quality teams and suppliersGenerate, review and sign off hardware data packs (e.g. change notes, technical drawings etc.)Liaise with customers on site and undertake modification, if requiredWork within confined spaces to carry out wiring modifications, if requiredDiagnose electrical engineering problems and make key stop/go decisionsInspect electrical wiring and assemblies in a quality assured environmentInterpret electrical drawings, schematics and instructionsUse equipment, tools and measuring instruments associated with the manufacturing and testing of electrical assembliesSupport preparation and execution of Factory Acceptance Test proceduresProvide hardware preparation guidance for quality inspection, testing and qualification purposesEssential5+ years of experience as a Hardware lead, Electrical lead or similarDegree, HND, HNC or equivalent in Electrical/ Electronic engineering or a related disciplineKnowledge and experience of design and integration of PLC based control systemsInterpretation, management and implementation of customer change requests, with the understanding of change processes and configuration control proceduresInterpretation of customer technical specifications, Control and Instrumentation (C&I) design data, electrical schematics and Interface specificationsExperience of PLC based safety systems up to SIL2 in accordance with IEC 61508 or equivalentDesirableUnderstanding and working knowledge of Defence programmesExperience within Defence, Maritime, Oil & Gas, Aerospace or a similarly regulated industrial sectorElectrical safety testing experienceUnderstanding and working knowledge of electrical build standardsKnowledge and experience of meeting Defence Environmental standards, such as Def Stan 00-35, Def Stan 59-411, MIL-STD-461 or similarCompetency requirementsAbility to work independently on own initiative, as well as within a collaborative team environmentAbility to work under pressure in a complex and rapidly changing environmentHold SC clearance or ability to achieve itAdept at problem-solving, able to develop solutions to a variety of problemsGood attention to detailOrganised, adept at workload management and prioritising appropriately to meet deadlinesFlexible and responsive to changing prioritiesProactive team worker, equally self-motivated and able to work autonomouslyGood interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with all audiences/stakeholdersFluent in written and spoken EnglishStrong customer focusEngaging 'can do' attitudeStrong IT skills, in particular Windows and MS Office productsAdditional InformationTravel requirements: Occasional UK travel may be required to attend team/customer meetings and training activitiesLooking for flexibility?
