The Process Engineer plans, schedules and coordinates various activities involving all aspects of Process Engineering for several small projects or one moderate project. Must be fully competent in performing all conventional aspects of Process Engineering and application of independent judgment for the evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation of standard Process Engineering methods and procedures. Assignments have clear and specific objectives, which require periodic evaluation by a more senior engineer.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESMay function as a group leader over designers and less experienced engineers and specialists. Is responsible for coordinating and reviewing progress of group activities.EDUCATIONNormally requires at least a four-year degree in Chemical Engineering.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCERequires a minimum of seven (7) years experience in Process/Design Engineering or related functional area (or equivalent working knowledge/experience). This includes proficiency in utilizing various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment. HDPE experience required. Registration as a licensed professional engineer is preferred.TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Analyzes client requirements and designs process and plant facilities. Develops Process engineering requirements for the design, control and operation of a process plant. Prepares equipment specifications. Communicates Process design to client and other design disciplines. Participates in or facilitates Process safety reviews. Prepares, edits and approves operators instruction manuals. Participates in preparation of contract proposals. Participates in plant start-ups.LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, managers, designers and engineers.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.PHYSICAL DEMANDSOccasionally, will conduct or participate in a field trip to an operating plant or construction site. This requires normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required.WORK ENVIRONMENTNormal work environment will be a business office with moderate noise. Occasionally, may visit or be temporarily assigned to work in an operating plant or at an construction site. This may require exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noise, work near moving mechanical parts, electrical energy, construction equipment, vibration, fumes, chemicals and airborne particles.
